Ladies, gentlemen and everyone in between:
I would like to announce my newest photojournalism project which will span across the countries of Thailand, Cambodia, India and Nepal! I'm leaving the US on October 18th for the next five months and I want everyone to be as excited about this journey as I am; so here are some of the issues I'm setting out to document:
In Thailand I will try and live in the Mae La refugee camp along the northern Thai border to document the humanitarian crisis faced by people displaced by conflict in Myanmar. Connections with Buddhist community organizers will also be sought out and established to understand the instabilities of the provinces and to observe the best ways I can be put to use the surrounding refugee camps in need. I am also traveling into Mae Sot to help out as an international organizer for the ABMA (All Burma Monk's Alliance) who are in exile after the dismantling of the Saffron Revolution of 2007.
In India I will be focusing on the struggles of the Tibetan colony of Dharamasala, woman's liberation movement against domestic violence, the societal deterioration from rural suicides, child welfare, and laborer rights throughout the continent.
My work in Nepal will finalize the project by assisting in relief for those living in the Pashupati Bridhashram (old home) for the elderly. I will also examine the pacifist life of monastic Buddhists to articulate a juxtaposition piece between pacifist Buddhism & militant Buddhism; providing a framework for the future discourse on this ancient faith.
